Fire Evacuation Policy:

In the event of a fire, all staff and children must remain calm and follow the fire evacuation procedure.

  • Upon hearing the fire alarm, children will line up quickly and calmly with the teacher at the front and class helper at the back. All belongings must be left where they are except the class registers which will be picked up and taken out by the teacher.

  • The teacher will dial 999 for the fire brigade.

  • Children will then walk in line out the nearest fire exit and make their way to the designated fire evacuation spot and will remain here until the all clear is given by a fire safety officer.

  • Any children who are separated from their class (ie, in the toilet) should quickly and calmly vacate through the nearest fire exit or join the line of their class if nearby. The teacher will make sure that toilets are checked and that no one is left behind.

  • Should children need to be collected, all parents will be contacted and will be picked up from an agreed safe location.

  • At Branston Village Hall, fire exits are in the main hall, the main entrance, and both small halls.

  • At the Want2Dance studios the 2 fire exits are located inside the studio and down stair in the main entrance.

  • At Burton College there are many fire exits located around the building.

  • If in doubt on where to go, fire evacuation signs are around all buildings with instructions on what to do and where to go.
